Memory Lamp

When Chris and I were on our honeymoon in the Caribbean, I decided I wanted to bring back some sand with us.  It was really important to me to make a memory jar from our time there and display it in our living room where everyone that came over could see it.  For a while it held a prime spot on the shelf above our fireplace, but in the months that followed it started to get moved to make way for other things.  Eventually it got put on a side table behind a wedding picture, and that’s where it stayed for the past year.  I wanted to repurpose it, but didn’t really know what I wanted to do with it.  So it sat alone and neglected until I could come up with a solution.

Once Chris and I decided we wanted a Beach theme for our bedroom, I started looking on Pinterest and found some great ways to take my memory jar and repurpose it into a lamp! Here are just a few of my favorites:

This one is my favorite!  It’s so simple and chic, perfect accent to a beach room.

I love the rope accent on this lamp.

The lamp is from Target

I love driftwood and think it’s so great that they used it to decorate the inside of this lamp!

The first lamp that I love is super expensive.  So, I knew I couldn’t get that exact one.  I had to find another option.  The Threshold lamp from Target was somewhat reasonable, but I didn’t like the metal bar that went right down the middle of the lamp!   At first I thought it might be a good idea to just make my own, as long as I could find a glass vase that I liked. That idea was scratched too because any vase I found that would work was ridiculously large.  Plus, after doing the math in my head I realized it would be even more expensive to do it myself than to just go out and buy a lamp from a store!

I did a bit of research and found this lamp at Target.  I was thrilled!  At $42.99 it was a little expensive but it was the size and shape I wanted so I couldn’t pass it up.  There were only a few left so I quickly grabbed one and took it up front to check out.

When I got home, I took the sand from my memory jar and poured it in the lamp base.  After shifting it around until it sat the way I wanted it too (I’m picky like that), I took some of the shells I bought at Hobby Lobby and some that I brought back from the Caribbean and carefully placed them in my jar.

It looks right at home on Chris’ nightstand and I am so happy with it!  Our old lamp was passed down and broken so I am incredibly happy to have a new one that shines bright and goes with our decor.

Probably my favorite part about this lamp is that it holds precious memories inside of it. We had a great time in the Caribbean and it’s nice to bring some of it in the room with us. Do you like to bring home keepsakes from the beach?

  1. I love these ideas!! How fun that you have physical memories from your honeymoon! Oh and I looove the printable about laying in bed on the phones… such a true picture of marriage 😉

    1. Thank you, Madison!!! I have to say, looking at that lamp reminds me of warm sand, swim-up bars, and an oceanfront villa. I want to go back sooo bad! haha

Seriously, truer words about marriage have never been spoken. At least, not in the 21st century. 😉
