Make a non-tradition embroidery hoop Christmas wreath to hang on your front door this holiday season!

Confession time: I’ve had the same wreath hanging on my front door since last Christmas.

I won’t lie, I’m a little bit lazy and since the wreath worked for all seasons I wasn’t too worried about changing it out. But I also was concentrating on decorating/buying for inside our house so the front door situation wasn’t really a huge concern.

And it looked nice. If it’s not broke don’t fix it. (amiright?)

I am notorious at buying craft supplies and then holding on to them for months (or in this case a year) before figuring out what to do with them. I have at least four embroidery hoops hanging up on the peg board in my office just waiting for me to get off my butt and figure out what to make with them.

I knew that I really wanted to make a wreath with them with some fake floral pieces or greenery from the craft store. But any time I try to use fake greenery or flowers in a project it always looks weird. I am not an expert at placing greenery in a way that makes sense or looks spectacular. It’s something I really need to learn at some point!

But as I walking through the aisles at Hobby Lobby (I sometimes feel like I live there…) I realized that I could go down the Christmas aisle and pick up premade greenery for mantles and such!

Thank you Hobby Lobby! You just made my life a tad bit easier.

With the greenery situation handled I could go home and quickly piece this embroidery hoop Christmas wreath together.

I decided to paint the hoop black because it would stand out against the fabric and our red door. Plus, all of our outdoor fixtures are black so it would match.

I did not paint the inside hoop because the fabric goes on top of it and I didn’t want the black showing through. Keeping it neutral meant it blended in with the fabric and I think it looks better that way.

I also really wanted a black and white buffalo check ribbon for the embroidery hoop Christmas wreath but couldn’t find one! I was so disappointed.

Luckily I had this red and black ribbon from last year and used it instead. Not the final look I was going for but I actually really love the pop of red!

I was honestly afraid the ribbon would blend too much with my door but it stands out fine. So that was one less thing I had to worry about.

The next big hurtle was figuring out how to attach the greenery to the embroidery hoop. I knew that using my hot glue gun was the solution but I wanted to secure it two ways, not just one. So I pulled out some floral wire (the clear kind) to wrap it on the hoop after I hot glued it.

That greenery isn’t going anywhere!

This was one craft that was knocked out during nap time and I still had plenty of time to do other things while my child napped. Those type of productive nap times give me life. I love them.

The best thing about this craft is that you can pretty much change up the design on the hoop to say whatever you want. I wanted mine to be a more neutral winter theme so it can stay up through February if I choose.

Remember, I’m lazy so the less I have to change out my wreath the better!
