Disney's Magic Bands Plus

{This post has lots of pictures!}

Chris and I are super excited to have been chosen to test out Disney’s My Magic Plus and MagicBands for our end of September trip to Disney!  Disney is rolling out a new guest experience using RFID technology that is supposed to lead to a better vacation and more magical experience.

Earlier this year, Disney started testing new turnstiles located at the entrance to the parks.

Disney has also started putting them at the entrance to rides, because they are a part of the new Fastpass Plus experience.

So, what exactly are MagicBands?

MagicBands are currently being tested by guests staying at select Disney Resorts.  If you are selected to test out the bands, you will receive an email letting you know.  Once you get the email, you can log into your Disney account and start customizing them.

Why are the bands important?

The bands are used for entrance into the parks, charging purchases to your room, and will be scanned at the front of the rides if you’ve reserved Fastpasses for the day.  They’ll do everything they can to make your visit to Disney as stress-free and magical as possible!

If you’re chosen to test them, here’s how you get started:

Go to the Disney Parks website and log into your account.

Scroll down the list and click on Magic Bands and Cards.

If you’ve already connected your reservation to your Disney account, you should see your parties names and the magic bands customize buttons on the Magic Bands and Cards page. (In this picture, I’ve already customized my band)

You can pick the color of your band and can also have them put your name on it.

Once you save your customized bands, you’ll go to a screen to confirm your address and order.

Then you get to wait a few days for your order to be shipped.  Ours came the very next day (which is probably pretty unusual!).

We can never wait to open a package once it gets here so I ran up to the front desk of our apartment building to pick it up so we could open it before Chris left for work.  It’s always an exciting time when Chris and I get a package!

The bands fit pretty much any size wrist.  It has numerous holes to accommodate your wrist size, and you can also peel off the grey band on the outside to fit a kids wrist better.

The inside of the band also has information printed on the inside so if you ever lose it, they’ll be able to get it back to you quickly and easily.

The pink arrow points to the section you can peel so the band will fit on your child’s arm.

I'm pretty excited to wear this on our next trip!

Here are some of the things we’re most excited about when visiting the parks with our Magic Bands:

  • Up to 30 days before your trip, you can go online and reserve Fastpasses for your favorite rides.  You can only do 3 rides a day and only 1 park per day.  You can also pick from four different time slots (morning, mid morning, lunch, and afternoon) depending on what works best for you)!
  • Once you’re at the parks, if you decide you don’t need or want a Fastpass reservation that you’ve already made, you can change it on the My Disney Experience App.
  • We won’t have to carry around multiple cards (our Fastpasses, annual pass, or Keys to the World, because they’ll all be on our bands)!

And one extra tidbit: If you have the Disney Infinity game, the bands give you extra content when placed on the base while you’re in Toy Box mode!  I’ll give you a hint about what it is: look to the sky.

Once we get back from Disney, I’ll have another review on the bands.  We can’t wait to use them and they’ve made us even more excited for the trip.  It’s going to be Magical!
