Love all things Gilmore?  Why not decorate your coffee bar with this rustic Gilmore Girls Coffee Sign!

There is nothing that goes better with a cup of coffee than an episode of Gilmore Girls.  It’s how I like to start every day, because a visit to Stars Hallow is just good for the soul.  There is just something about that series that I can watch over and over (it’s like FRIENDS, it never gets old) and I will never grow tired of it.

I knew that I wanted to make something Gilmore related for National Coffee Day, and had been debating on whether or not I wanted to try to stencil a Gilmore design on wood for a while.  Stenciling on wood has always made me nervous because I was so afraid of messing up, but I finally just decided to try, and I have to say that I’m so pleased with the result!  No crafting project could ever go wrong when you’re using Gilmore Girls as the inspiration.  And this Gilmore Girls coffee sign is all kinds of perfection!

When I think of Gilmore Girls and coffee, I always think of the scene where Lorelei tries to explain her “coffee coffee coffee” bit to the lady at Westons.  No one gets a good coffee bit like a Gilmore does.  And I can’t be the only one who wanted to grab my favorite mug and join the Gilmore’s at Luke’s Diner.  His first pot of coffee is always his best after all.

With the revival coming out in less than two months I’ve got all things Gilmore on the brain!  I’ve also been binge-watching the series on Netflix whenever I have the time, getting my Stars Hallow fix in while I wait for the new episodes.  I’ve just got so many questions.  Why aren’t Luke and Lorelei married yet?  Is Jess still in love with Rory?  Is Logan back in the picture?  I need to know.  And I’m a little bummed that we still have a bit of a wait before we’ll find out!

I’m trying to focus my anxious energy onto other things, because otherwise I’ll go crazy.  So I pulled out my Silhouette and decided to make a Gilmore sign for National Coffee Day!  Though let’s be honest, every day is National Coffee Day in my house.  Which is why I made a Gilmore coffee sign.  Because nothing says Gilmore like a good cup of coffee!

Make Your Own Gilmore Coffee Sign

You’ll Need:

  • Silhouette Cameo
  • Silhouette Stencil Vinyl
  • Silhouette Weeding Tools
  • Contact Paper OR Silhouette Transfer Paper
  • Piece of wood or pallet (I got mine at Michaels)
  • Mod Podge
  • Wood Stain
  • Chalk Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Sand Paper

Cut the design out with your Silhouette, weed it, and cut it into four strips.  Place contact paper OR silhouette transfer paper (whichever you have on hand! both work well) on top of the design and pull it up off the backing.  (you can see how I did that in this post)

Place each strip onto your wooden sign and then paint a layer of mod podge over top of the vinyl.  This will keep the chalk paint from bleeding underneath the vinyl letters.

Once the layer of mod podge is dry paint over everything with a layer of chalk paint.  When the paint is dry peel up the vinyl letters using the Silhouette weeding tools.  There may be a slight bit of bleeding (mine was very minor), but the mod podge should’ve prevented any major problems.

This last step that I did was lightly sand the chalk paint to give it a slightly distressed look.

I’m pretty obsessed with the sign and how it came out!  I stayed away from stenciled wood sign projects for so long because I was so scared that I would mess everything up horribly.  I swear that I make everything out to be much worse in my head and always talk myself out of doing stuff.  I need to stop doing that because the projects that I talk myself out of are always the easiest.  And this pallet sign was super easy!

I feel like I’m ready to drink coffee and watch the Gilmore Revival!  Now I just need to look up a few of Sookie’s famous recipes to stuff my face with while I’m watching the show.

What are you most looking forward to with the four-part installment?  Are you ready to drink your coffee like a Gilmore?
