Cute and Creepy DIY Coffin
This DIY coffin has to be one of my favorite Halloween crafts (maybe because I can store candy in it… but that’s just speculation).
I found this coffin template in a Halloween paper pad from Michael’s. I’m sure there are a ton of templates online that you could use for this if you don’t have (or want to buy) this paper pad.. even though it’s totally worth it! 😉
First, just cut out the template and fold along the dotted lines.
I wanted to add a pattern to the inside so I chose this black wood patterned card stock from the same paper pad. I tried tracing the entire pattern and pasting it inside, but with all of the folds it just didn’t line up perfectly.
Instead, I just traced and cut each section individually.
It’s okay if it’s not exact–as long as it’s bigger. You can always go back with scissors or an exacto knife and cut off the excess (I did).
Now I wasn’t the biggest fan of the orange and black paper on the side. I guess I wanted something less colorful and more spooky. You can obviously just leave the template colors if you like them. But I didn’t. Also it’s good to note that when you glue 2 extra layers of card stock, the coffin is much more sturdy.
I decided I wanted the sides to be cut from this lovely green patterned card stock.
Taken from this mini paper pad.
Using the pieces I had already cut from the black wood paper, I just traced and cut the same shapes from the green paper.
Now that I had all my pieces, it was time to glue!
Candy!!
I made another version of this as well.
But I didn’t put candy in this one. Instead, I just used it as a decoration. Maybe I can get a little skeleton to put in there!
What kind of paper crafts do you do for Hallowen?
This is so fun, whimsical and cute (as cute as a coffin can be LOL).
Thanks for sharing.
